To our valued Symetrix clients –
This message is to inform you of an upcoming change and a scheduled services outage that will occur on:
Friday evening March 26th at 7 PM (Eastern).
Symetrix is switching to a new Internet Services Provider called Windstream (formerly known as NuVox). With this change we will be assigned new Internet addresses (IP addresses).
This change offers several advantages including faster speeds and since many of our clients are also on NuVox there will be fewer hops between us thus further improving network connection speeds.
At 7 PM on Friday, March 26th we will switch our firewalls and servers to point to the new service and begin using the new addresses. So at that time all hosting services such as Email, Web Hosting, Collaborative Websites, DNS, FTP, Peer-Link, and several others will go offline.
This will also affect those of you that may have configured your cell phones to receive email from our servers.
We expect to have all devices reconfigured within a couple of hours.
When you request a lookup for an Internet Address from your Internet Service Provider, they retrieve the answer and then store that answer for a few hours. This storing of a previous address lookup is known as DNS Caching. Some providers configure their DNS Caching to remember the answer for just a couple of hours before doing another fresh lookup, whereas other providers wait as much as 24 hours. When you see services return will depend upon just how quickly your Internet Provider will do a fresh lookup and learn about our new address.
The vast majority of you should see services return by midnight Friday. We will be monitoring and testing throughout the weekend. If over the weekend you are experiencing issues or have concerns, I invite you to call my cell phone (listed below).
In addition we moved our public website (www.symetrixnet.com) to a server that will be unaffected by this transition.
On our website we have created a Services Alerts section where we can keep you up to date on our status throughout this transition:
If you have any issues Monday morning you are welcome to contact any of us on our cell phones: http://www.symetrixnet.com/contact-us.html
But, again, I will be available (by cell phone) to answer your concerns over the weekend.
We appreciate your patience as we work through this transition and improve our services.
Thank you,
David Cocke ([email protected])
